Assisting Net-Zero Regeneration of Magistrates Court

The former Magistrates’ Court in Bury St Edmunds, part of the Old Shire Hall, is a prominent Grade II listed building with significant architectural and civic heritage.

As part of a wider regeneration project, developers retrofitted and repurposed the 2,044 sqm vacant building, focusing on heritage preservation and sustainability. The project contributed to the UK’s journey towards net zero, transforming the courtrooms, cells, and administrative spaces into new residential units.

CADS Surveys conducted a comprehensive measured building survey using laser scanning technology for Rees Pryer Architects. The point cloud, 2D drawings and LoD 4 3D Revit® Architectural Model deliverables provided the architectural team with highly accurate data, allowing them to preserve original features while adapting the space for modern use.
